Sickle-shaped white voids

Sickle-shaped white voids

Thermal transfer printing: sickle-shaped white voids

Explanation

Wrinkles that appear during printing at the printhead are often caused by large-sized image elements like big barcodes. Due to the heat coming from the printhead, the base film stretches remarkably more at this point than in other areas. This leads to tensions and wrinkles.

Help

Lower printing temperature. Change printed image, move large-sized elements (preferably to the centre of the label) or shrink them

Wrinkles may occur when unwinding the ribbon. Possible causes:
1. Misalignment of unwind shaft, guiding shaft and rewind shaft
2. Ribbon is too wide or narrow for the size of the label

ad 1. Realign shafts
ad 2. Thermal transfer ribbon and label material ideally should have the same width
